Evening on River Street - A popular community event held on River St. in downtown Elk Rapids on a weekly basis throughout the summer, featuring live entertainment, a wide variety of food and activities for both adults and
Jazz at Sunset - Join the Jeff Haas Trio and Chateau Chantal for the 17th year in this celebration of wine, jazz and spectacular sunsets! The event is free and open to the public. A great way to spend a summer evening for the family.
Thursday Night Evening Stroll - Each Thursday in July, Alden hosts "Thursday Night Evening Stroll" featuring different entertainment each week. Relax and stroll each week, shops and restaurants stay open late for visitor's enjoyment.
Friday Night Live! Every Friday 5:30-9pm featuring a full slate of music, entertainment, food, demonstrations, and family activities along the closed blocks of Front Street in downtown TC.
Stone Circle Gatherings Every Saturday, 9pm, Mid-June thru Labor Day. The Stone Circle is a triple ring of 88 large boulders capturing the atmosphere of ancient cultures that gathered in family and community groups to entertain and exchange stories of everyday life and lore. Listeners perch on boulders or spread out on blankets and lawn chairs, as an ever-changing variety of poetry, storytelling and music are woven throughout the evening at this unique outdoor amphitheater. The circular arrangements and settings were designed by Terry Wooten, who also hosts the gatherings. Ten miles north of Elk Rapids, turn east Off US 31 onto Stone Circle Dr. and follow to the top of the hill, then follow signs to the right. $4 Adults/$2 Children
Chateau Chantal Tapas Tours & Wine Dinners - Our Tapas Tour experience consists of a tour of the winery that winds through the vineyard and cellar as the winemaking process is explained from vine to wine, and concludes with our tapas-style exploration of wine and food pairing. We aim to satisfy your appetite for wine knowledge as well as for tapas! Offered daily from Mid-June to the end of August.
Our Wine Dinners are offered Wednesday and Saturday evenings during the summer season. We have taken the greatest care in selecting a 5 course meal that pairs perfectly with our home grown Michigan wines. We source the food from as many local farms as we can to make the experience truly a pairing between our wines and local Northern Michigan agriculture.
Aug 3-6: Elk Rapids Harbor Days celebration has been a popular 4-day event in northern Michigan for over 50 years. The entertainment begins on Wednesday evening with Evening On River Street--a street fair atmosphere with a cornucopia of sights and sounds to satisfy your appetite for food, music and entertainment The Harbor Days celebration culminates on Saturday with a parade, events, and one of the best fireworks displays in northern Michigan, provided by world famous Zambelli’s pyrotechnics.
Aug 5: Downtown Street Sale 8am-9pm Downtown 100-200 blocks of Front Street will be closed for merchandise for the largest sale event of the year!
Aug 5: Paella in the Park 5-10 pm Clinch Park TC Evening festival celebration with wine, food and live music pairing 7 OMP wineries with 7 regional chefs who will prepare 36”pans of Spanish paellas over an open fire.
Aug 6: Classic Boats on the Boardwalk 10am to 4pm Boardman River, downtown Traverse City Approximately fifty wooden and classic boats will be on display along the Boardman River boardwalk and on land during the Annual Boats on the Boardwalk Classic Boat Show. The viewing area starts at the Traverse City Chamber of Commerce located at the corner of Cass Street and Grandview Parkway. No admission fee.
Aug 6-7: Suttons Bay Annual Community Art Festival This annual art fair takes place at the beautiful Suttons Bay Marina Park on the first weekend of August. One hundred artists along with community groups, food vendors and a children's area make this the perfect place to spend an art-filled weekend at the beach.
Aug 6-13: Northwestern Michigan Fair Exhibits, barn dance, 4-H live stock shows, carnival, Grand Stand shows, tough truck competition, great food. Midway open 10am-11pm. Located at 3606 Blair Townhall Road (south of Chum's Corners on M 37), Traverse City. Admission fee.
Aug 12-13: Port Oneida Rural and Cultural Arts FairTwo-day celebration of Michigan’s rural traditions in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore protected historic farming settlement. Tour the one-room schoolhouse, historic farms and original homesteads, with demonstrations of old rural life and a Civil War encampment. Food, music and live entertainment as well.
Aug 12-21: Third Coast Bicycle Festival Something for every bicycle enthusiast—races, bicycle art, trackstand and polo competitions, a bicycle film night, and lots and lots of great organized rides.
Aug 12-14: Cherry Roubaix Bike RaceMichigan State Road Race Championship delivers three days of activities and events on scenic Old Mission peninsula, Leelanau County and downtown TC.
Aug 12 & 20: Entertainment Under the Stars 8 pm behind Unity Church at 3600 Five Mile Road. Claudia Schmidt (8/12) is a local dynamic vocalist who has recorded 14 CDs of mostly folk, blues and jazz idioms featuring her 12 string guitar and mountain dulcimer. Bo Bossa (8/20) a four piece ensemble plays and sings swing, jazz, blues, Latin, fusion and whatever else they feel like playing. $10 Adults $5 Children
Aug 13: Leelanau Wine, Food & Music Festival This popular festival at Northport’s Haserot Park features music, great food from local restaurants and wines from the Leelanau Peninsula.
Aug 14: Charlevoix Waterfront Art Fair Many of the nation's finest artists and craftsmen will be coming to the Charlevoix Waterfront Art Fair to exhibit their best works. These have been chosen from over 1000 applicants who subject their work to the jury. This is a most difficult task as this fair attracts the finest but only a limited number of spaces are available. The Fair is always held the second Saturday in August and draws over 25,000 art lovers to this resort town between Lake Michigan and Round Lake. It is the second oldest juried art fair in Michigan.
Aug 18-21: 43rd Annual Buckley Old Engine Show One mile west of Buckley off M-37 on CR-633. This event has over 700 antique gas and steam tractors, cars and trucks, and a working 1923 steam locomotive that carries passengers around a mile of track.
Aug 20: Elk Rapids Arts & Crafts Show 9 am-4 pm Come enjoy the Annual Arts & Crafts Show in the quaint Village of Elk Rapids, adjacent to the beautiful Elk Rapids Harbor. The show is located in the heart of the village, with over 100 artisans who will display, sell and demonstrate their work. Rain or shine.
Aug 20: Downtown Art Fair 10 am to 5 pm on Cass Street between Front & Washington. Fine art will fill the streets on this weekend in Downtown Traverse City. This annual juried art fair features over 90 Midwest and National artists. Open to the public free of charge.
Aug 20: 3rd Annual TC Wine & Art Festival 3-10 pm at the Village Commons. The festival is a landmark celebration of the wine, food, and culture of Michigan’s wine coast featuring local wines, local restaurants, music and performances plus 30 tents of high quality Michigan art for purchase and appreciation! $20 Advance / $25 Door
Aug 20-21: Peshawbestown Traditional Pow Wow The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians holds its annual Pow Wow featuring native singers, dancers, artists and artisans.
Aug 21: TC Triathlon Bowers Harbor on Old Mission Peninsula
Aug 26-27: TC Microbrew & Music Festival will take place on the front lawn of The Village at Grand Traverse Commons in Traverse City. This event aims to be one of the greatest in the state with beers from around the Midwest, focusing especially on Michigan brews.
